A lead machine screw anchor is basically a screw anchor made of lead, which is a soft and malleable metal used in several applications such as building of construction materials, lead-acid batteries, bullets, cable sheathing, lead alloys, as a radiation shield and others. Its lead alloys will mold itself into the concrete surface to ensure a tight fit. This is designed for anchoring into base materials such as concrete, brick and block. Whether you are fastening through a screw or lag bolt, both of these will cut their thread to the soft lead metal of the anchor and expand it to press against the solid masonry.
Lead screw anchors are best utilized for light to medium duty anchoring purposes. After installation, the fixture can actually be replaced or removed without losing its strong hold on the surface because the anchor can be left in place while the screw or bolt used can be removed or unscrewed.
